Songs of Summer

my beloved Twisted Mixtape is back, even if its only on a monthly basis. This time, the theme is Summer Songs from our playlist. I have to admit that having a vehicle with an “aux” setting on the radio has really improved my playlist. I added a lot of “old” songs combined with new songs and set them on playlists.

And now, I’m sharing some of my favorites that got replays every time they came on over the summer…

To start, I have to share the song that I can’t get out of my head. I’m simply in love with this song for more than just the sound. The lyrics get me too.

I’m only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I’m only human
And I crash and I break down

Aerosmith has long been a favorite band of mine, and before my Sirius free trial ran out, I caught this one song and remembered how much I love it. I added it to my playlist and have to play it every single time I’m in the car…

Half my life’s in books’ written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it’s true
All the things you do, come back to you

Everywhere I went, I heard this song. It was even played on The Voice. It’s a good thing too, because I really like it. It inspires me to move, and is the perfect song for a bike/skate show at the closest amusement park. Of course it went on my playlist, and we never tired of hearing it in the car either.

Sink in the river
The lessons I learned
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

I’ve never heard of this next artist, but once I heard the song I knew it belonged on my playlist.

Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is

What would summer be without this song? It was already on my playlist, but it got a lot of play over the past few months, considering this was the summer of road trips for me. I traveled to Ohio to be in my best friend’s wedding. This is a woman who has been my writing partner for a few years now, never caring if I was really a 70 year old pervert on the other side of the screen or not. I had a fabulous time and didn’t want to go home.

Let’s not forget the drive to meet another online friend for a play date with our sons while my teens went to Vans Warped Tour. And then, there was the beautiful drive through mountain country to take my only daughter to camp…

This song definitely fits my summer!

You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise
Down a back road blowin’ stop signs through the middle
Every little farm town with you

As I mentioned before, I went to Ohio for a weekend. It was a long drive for a short trip that I wish I could have extended just one more night.

(No lyrics to share as they are repetitive and its really the sound of the song I enjoy.)

My playlist could go on and on (as my music players has the top 50 most played songs as playlist), but since this is a blog post, and I need to save some for other playlists, I’ll end with this one.

I had to come back and add this one asa bonus, because after my summer, this is truly how I feel!

Today I don’t feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don’t feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
‘Cause today I swear I’m not doing anything

No, I ain’t gonna comb my hair
‘Cause I ain’t going anywhere

And that, folks, is my fabulous (partial) Twisted Mixtape from the summer. What’s on YOUR playlist?

  1. I’m sorry, but I really just love The Lazy Song, and the video of course! This is a great list! There has to be some old and new, right? And someone has got to keep reminding us to Dream On!!!
    Thanks for playing this month!

  2. I love learning little things about you from your choice of music for the Mixtapes. Every one of these songs is a good one and I am so glad your summer was a good one, filled with lots of memories and adventures.

Sara is a personal favorite of mine …(go find Gravity on’s a beautiful song)
