Music A to Z: Bad, Bad, Baby Boys

Twisted Mixtape took a hiatus a couple of weeks ago and I literally cried. I know, I know, but I have really come to enjoy getting to know people through their music choices. When Jacqueline told me she was doing something similar, yet different, I meant to join in.

Last week was the first week, and I missed it. I’m not passing up the opportunity to play some music this week! Today is B day (funny, because it’s B day at my children’s schools, too!) and I’m going to give you some B songs.

Today gives me a chance to go back in time with my first song. I loved the smooth sounds of this all-girl group and how most of their songs had meaning. I’m not sure this is one of them, but you can decide for yourself. It was my introduction to the group and I’ve never forgotten it since.

But you gotta be down
A nickel gotta be true
Cause otherwise this “B” ain’t got no time for you

This next song was originally written for the group above who rejected it. I wonder if they’d known that it would rise to #1 that year, if they would have changed their mind? It was so popular it put this Mouseketeer on the map.

There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
That’s not the way I planned it
Show me, how you want it to be

Speaking of Mouseketeers, Britney wasn’t the only one from that class to find success. In fact, a popular singer got his start singing to the Mouse way back when too, though he had to start with another “B” I could have chosen for today–Boy Bands! That’s right. Remember this one?

So give me one good reason,
Baby come on
I live for you and me

I watched “Sing Off” this past season. I still don’t know who actually won the contest, but I did find a new group to love. Their cover of the above song is amazing enough I’m sharing it.

Moving right along, this next song made its way to fame thanks to a tv show–one my 6 year older cop loving son watches religiously. I like it because its got a nice beat to it and it’s just fun to sing along with.

When you were eight and you had bad traits
You go to school and learn the golden rule

Speaking of bad boys, I still don’t know what the appeal is for us females, but it’s there. Gloria Estefan sings about Bad Boys but, I prefer bad boys of this type…

I like smoke and lightnin’
Heavy metal thunder

And this kind…

I make a rich woman beg
I’ll make a good woman steal
I’ll make an old woman blush
And make a young girl squeal

And, in conclusion, Lady Gaga describes it best, this appeal for these bad boys and knowing you’re headed for a heartbreak. You know it’s going to be a Bad Romance.

I want your ugly
I want your disease
I want your everything

Come back next week and see what I do with the C’s!! What’s your favorite B? Join in!

  2. That Bye Bye Bye cover is fabulous! And fun choice for the theme this week. I didn’t know the TLC one though… not sure how I missed it though!
