Doing it Wrong

Copyright Rochelle Wisoff Fields

“You’re doing it wrong. Any witch worth her salt knows eye of newt always goes in before wolf’s bane.”

Calliope put down the book she was holding and turned around. She cut her eyes at the large black spider watching from the web.

“Fine.” She set the book under the web. “You do it then.”

“Gladly,” said the spider, positioning itself on the book. Calliope moved quickly and slammed the book closed then opened it again. She extracted a leg from the page, dropped it in the pot, then brushed the rest of the crushed body into a jar.

“Now that’s how you do it!” A smile lit her face as she swept the web away.

The…Wikipedia: The… is the debut extended play by South Korean boyband JYJ, a group formed of three of the five members of TVXQ. It was released in Japanese language under Rhythm Zone, the band’s former Japanese label as a part of TVXQ. The release was commercially successful, reaching number one on Oricon’s weekly albums chart.

The Invasion

Syrai stepped out of the plane as the dust cleared and looked around. Gobs of gooey mass spread evenly across the field, in the same orderly fashion as the humans had been. She leaned down, stuck a probe in the nearest gob, and dropped it into a vial.

“Such a disgrace to science,” Syrai muttered as the tube turned blue. Andos touched her shoulder lightly.

“At least now we will be prepared.”

Syrai shrugged him off and climbed back into the plane. Angry tears glistened in her eyes.

“How dare they destroy their planet, and then try to destroy ours?”

In Time: Feed

This image belongs to Madison Woods.

Fierce pangs ravaged Viola’s body. An insane thirst drove her through the woods, her sense of smell heightened. She followed the trail of heat, not caring what the source of that heat might be. In her plagued mind, it meant food.

The leaves taunted her with its scent. The changes within her new body caused an awkwardness that hampered her pursuit. Suddenly, she lost the scent. Her thirst screamed in response. She stepped into a small glade and multiple aromas overtook her. Only one stood out.

It overpowered the others, and she followed it. The smell grew stronger as she walked. There, behind a thick patch of poisonous weeds, were the reddest berries she’d ever seen. She pulverized them; grabbing handfuls and shoving them in her mouth, feeling the thick juice run down her throat, temporarily squashing her thirst.
