100 Word Song: Heavenly Day

She looked up at me with amber eyes. We swayed slowly, gently to the music, lost in our own world. It was just the two of us, dancing together on the laminate flooring laid on the grass special for just this occasion. Elegantly we moved in circles around the dance floor, laughing in that way newlyweds did. Promises of forever revealed in that moment, of our dreams coming true.

She looked up at me with golden eyes. We swayed slowly, gently, back and forth, just the two of us for just this moment. Just me and my newborn baby girl.

The challenge: write exactly 100 words based on the particular song. This week’s song was “Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin.

I always welcome and appreciate honest feedback. Please share your thoughts in comment.

John Wayne

He stood tall and stoic against the fence, his fatigues long faded, the hems of his pants and shirt jagged and loose. Someone had torn his name patch from his shirt and snapped off his dog tags. Someone had asked him questions he refused to answer. Someone had transferred him to this god-forsaken hole.

Today was his reckoning day. Sixteen rifles pointed towards him. His nostrils flickered wide as he breathed, determined to show no emotion. They could steal his identity but they couldn’t take his soul. They could torture him, but he’d show no fear. He was John Wayne.

This story is 100 words based on Billy Idol’s “John Wayne” for the 100 Word Song writing challenge hosted by Lance and Leeroy at My Blog Can Beat Up Your Blog. Every Tuesday a new song is given to inspire a 100 word story from you. It’s fun. It’s challenging. You want in on this.

I always appreciate honest feedback. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Trifextra: Road Kill

My breath snuffed, my heart stopped, I hover between time and space. My four-legged life over, I wait minutes until I emerge, squalling and screaming, under bright lights, my new human life begun.

This weekend’s Trifextra assignment was simple: Rebirth in 33 words. Mission accomplished.

Please leave your thoughts, as they are much appreciated, in a comment.

Thanks for visiting! See you again soon!

Cat-Eyed Moon

Each month, on the night of the cat-eyed moon, you can hear the woodwinds play. If you happen to live in a cabin across from the hills, you might even see them dancing. Beware being caught watching, though, or they will forever haunt your soul.

For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts and can be written in any genre you choose. I used all 3 and I come in with 45 words.

What do you think? Did I write you a story? Please feel free to share your thoughts in a comment. I always love hearing from you!

Also, if you are new here, you should know that I am one of many authors competing to become America’s Next Author. Like American Idol, there is a new nominee every week, secured in place by your votes, social media shares, ratings, and reviews. Please take a moment (you don’t even need to create an account) and stop by my author page and VOTE, then use the social media icons (inLinked, Twitter, and FB likes) underneath to spread the word. I’d really appreciate it if you left a review, too. While you are there, take a moment to stop by my friends’ Lance, Cameron, and Jester Queen pages as well and vote. Thanks!

The Sharp Dressed Man

He’s on the front page of your local newspaper, dressed to the nines, with a wallet full of cash, and an eternal smirk plastered on his face. He visits only the very best clubs, dozens of ladies flock to his side, decorate his arm. With sinister eyes watching your every move, you’ll meet him during cocktail hour and he’ll sweep you off your feet, but don’t you dare accept his invitation for an after-hours drink. It’s more than just a drink he wants, and he’ll take it if he can. Everybody best beware the handsome, woman-killing, sharp dressed man.

This week’s #100WordSong choice was Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top, another of my favorite bands. This one was easily enough to put together, along with a little help from the Trifecta word of the week: Sinister, in it’s 3rd definition: singularly evil or productive of evil.

This was fun, and flowed with a bit more rhyme than I intended, but I hope you enjoyed anyway. Please share your thoughts on this piece in a comment.

It’s Round 3 over at America’s Next Author, and I’m in the running. I need you to vote every week (just click it!) then use the social media icons underneath it to spread the word. Every click counts!! I also need MORE REVIEWS and ratings, too. While you are there, stop by my friends Cameron, Lance, and Jester Queen and give them a vote too!

Thanks for stopping in!
