The grit of the African air hit him as soon as he landed. The open side of the helicopter did nothing to conceal this grit, and the wind from the blades started…

So, there you have it. The first 33 words of my NaNo novel (Toxic Lucidity) from last November. No, it’s not finished yet (yes! I’m a slacker), but Trifecta said they wanted it, so that’s what they get.
Author of fictions, SAM spends much of her free time living in alternate universes created by her own mind or others. When she's not writing, she mothers her 4 children, loves her husband, attends church, and neglects housework as often as possible.
Thanks so much for linking up this weekend. I’m with the other commenter who said that this is even more exciting, knowing that the novel is already written. Good stuff here! Do you plan on doing NaNo again this year? I’ve done it twice before, but skipped last year. I think I’ve regretted it every day since. But Trifecta was launched then, and it seemed too much at once. This year, I’m all over it. I think.
I do. I have a few stories in mind, but not sure which one is going to win out. Not every story in my head can produce 50K words, LOL. This will be my third year doing it.If you do decide to do it, let me know. I’ll cheer you along.

Visions of safaris and danger brewing already…

You’ve actually read some of the parts of it, too.

This is gonna be an adventure, not a pleasure trip, I can tell. Very evocative.

Yes, it is quite an adventure. Thank you for stopping in!

I sense a lot of material to be showcased by all the grit in the air… Very interesting opening!
07/29/2012 at 7:31 pm
Thank you. There certainly is a lot of grit to the story, anyway.

Even more fun to know there’s a real novel behind this one! I’m totally curious as to what kind of horror this turns into.

Someday you will get your answer.

Grit in the teeth; wind in the hair; and wondering…why is he there?

I could just feel the heat and sand… there are so many places this could go.

I might just feel grit in my teeth now too. So is this an adventure trip or will it be trouble? Trouble, I hope!
07/28/2012 at 11:36 am
Definitely trouble!

I love the senses that are invoked right away, like you’re just jumping head first into another world…

Well thanks!! Maybe its better than I thought.

This sounds like an interesting setting. You have me wondering what brought him to Africa in the first place.

The next few 100 words don’t leave you guessing, and it dives right in to the horror, but would you expect anything less?
Thank you so much for your feedback!

I can almost hear the helicopter blades whipping away!

there’s so much left open with this line!

I rewrote the first few sentences for Rachel for this. To be posted shortly
Damn, reminds me I still have to work on MY NaNo…sigh…

Yeah I did a teensy bit of editing. I had 5 to choose from, and this one seemed the most exciting/different. I need to work on my opening lines…

Hey SAM! Sounds like an adventure – and I am a sucker for adventures

Oh there’s plenty of adventure in store…if I ever finish it. LOL
